Me and Ami Circa 2018
Me and Ami Circa 2018
I am probably a lot like you. I have gone through the world knowing I would not live forever but acting as if I would. Reality hit when my best friend Ami was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer at age 40. I watched in awe as she got her affairs in order so the burden of it would not be on the shoulders of the loved ones she left behind – her parents, her sister, her friends. Ami was bigger than life and planned her exit strategy with an abundance of finesse and humor so we will all remember her exactly how she lived – awesomely! She opened my eyes to the necessary legalities but also to the cool possibilities for my remains. I choose to leave in style!
Who do I think I am putting a fun spin on death and helping people plan their departures? I have had plenty of deaths in my circle of family and friends and experienced the traditional way of exiting. It no longer suits me. I am a person who chooses to follow Ami’s lead and add some humor to the inevitable. I invite you to do so as well.
“Cheers” to being a Star in Your Own Departure!
